Feed your Soul for Success

Last but not least in my 3 part blog series of the BODY, MIND and SOUL I will conclude with the importance of feeding your soul for success in every part of your life.

To start with I found this to be the most difficult write about as it can mean so many different things to people. So, I decided to make some points that I believe are the most relevant for leading a Healthy, Active Lifestyle as well as being the most important to me.

Here are the TOP 5 things that come to my mind when I think about a person’s SOUL, along with my favourite definitions of the word;

  1. HAPPINESS – A sense of well-being, joy or contentment.

  2. KINDNESS – The quality of being friendly, generous and considerate.

  3. GRATITUDE – The quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation.

  4. POSITIVITY – The practice of being positive or optimistic in attitude.

  5. PURPOSE/MEANING - The reason for which something is done/created or for which something exists.

“The trick is in what one emphasizes. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves happy. The amount of work is the same” Carlos Castaneda (Author & Anthropologist)

In this blog there are lots of ways in which you can increase your happiness, by following some or all of the points, made in both my previous post’s MIND & BODY and this final post, you can ensure to reach maximum happiness in your life! Nothing motivates people more than the feeling of happiness, it improves many other aspects of life…

  •    BOOSTS PRODUCTIVITY – If you are enjoying life and what you are doing, you become far more inclined do to a good job. This can be applied to both your job or in your everyday life!

  • IMPROVES PHYSICAL HEALTH – Studies have shown happiness lowers heart rate and blood pressure, boosts your immune system and protects you from aches & pains.

  • THE BEST ANTIDOTE TO STRESS & ANXIETY – If you are feeling stressed, find something to be positive about. Think of all the good things in your life and try not to focus on the negative. A song I remember clearly from school “count your blessings” which has definitely had a memorable impact on my outlook on life.

  • INCREASES CONFIDENCE – By telling yourself you are worthy and deserving and when you chose to do what makes you happy, you have no room for insecurities. “To fall in love with yourself is the first secret to happiness” Robert Morley

  • HAPPINESS IS CONTAGIOUS – Be the spreader of happiness by living it!

“Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier” Mother Teresa (Saint)

Here are 4 science backed reasons being kind is good for your health…

  • RELEASES FEEL-GOOD HORMONES – When you do something nice for someone else, it makes you feel better too! It boosts your serotonin, the neurotransmitter responsible for feelings of satisfaction & well-being, just the same as exercise

  • EASES ANXIETY - Individuals with high levels of social anxiety would benefit from PA (positive affect) enhancement. Small gestures, volunteer work, calling a friend or even just smiling at someone!

  • GOOD FOR YOUR HEART - Kindness releases the hormone oxytocin. “Oxytocin causes the release of a chemical called nitric oxide in blood vessels, which dilates blood vessels. As a result this reduces blood pressure and therefore known as a ‘cardio protective’ hormone because it protects the heart, by lowering blood pressure.” Dr. David Hamilton

  • REDUCES STRESS - According to a study on the effects of pro social behaviour on stress “Affiliative behaviour may be an important component of coping with stress and engaging in pro social behaviour might be an affective strategy for reducing the impact of stress on emotional functioning”

“The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” 14th Dalai Lama (Spiritual Leader)

Gratitude is a selfless act that is done unconditionally to show people that they are appreciated.

Gratitude can change your life by quite literally improving the quality of it, it makes you appreciate what you have, rather than what you don’t have. Some of the most successful people in the world live by this school of thought, the pathway to success is through an ever-grateful attitude or what you have today, rather than what you’re lacking.

Gratitude shifts your focus. Life is all about focus, whatever we focus one we move towards! It helps you to succeed by creating a platform of internal success, breathing positivity into everything you’re doing. You can easily move from a negative state to a positive one by recounting all of the thing that you have to be grateful for on a daily basis. When you focus on things that are wrong with your life, you can’t possibly push towards your goals, that could potentially be years away from becoming reality. Instead you get distracted, waste time and engage in pursuits that hinder us rather than help us.

When we’re grateful for things, its a natural occurrence to be happier about life. You realize the things you have rather than the things you don’t have!

Create a platform of gratitude by writing down everything you have to be grateful for.

“My dear friend, clear your mind of can’t” Samuel Johnson (Writer)

THE LAW OF ATTRACTION - The belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life.

I believe that you can change your life by changing the way you think. Being a positive thinker, will bring positive things to you. This is not to say that bad or unfortunate things will not happen to you, however you will become better at dealing with these situations and be able to turn them into something positive!

What are the 7 Laws of Attraction…

  1. DESIRE - Before you bring anything into reality you must really want it.

  2. IMAGINATION - Form an image of what you desire in your mind, make it as real and detailed as you can.

  3. AFFIRMATION - Making positive statements on a daily basis about what you would like to be, do or have in your life.

  4. FOCUS WITH CONFIDENCE - Focus on the subject and feel confident that whatever it is you desire will materialise.

  5. BELIEVE - It is important that you have a true belief that you can reach your goals.

  6. GRATITUDE - As spoken about previously, having an attitude of gratitude is ver important to the process.

  7. MANIFESTATION - The thing that you desire becomes reality.

“Like attracts like” - If you are feeling excited, enthusiastic, passionate, happy, joyful, appreciative or abundant then you are sending out positive energy. On the other hand, if you are feeling bored, anxious, stressed out, angry, resentful or sad, you are sending out negative energy.

  • Respond differently to the situations that arise during your day

  • Think differently

  • Focus & think about the things you want more in your life

  • Experience more of the things that make you feel good

  • Deliberately participate in the creation of your future by managing your thoughts and feelings.

Being more positive about everything in your life will make a big difference, it makes you feel good! When you feel good you are more likely to want to participate in other things that make you feel good, such as eating clean healthy food and participating in physical activity. POSITIVITY BREEDS POSITIVITY!

The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”  Pablo Picasso

I personally don’t think you should search too far, nor think too hard for a purpose. However, I do believe that there are ways to promote a sense of purpose & meaning, which I think is very important if you want to be truly happy and content with you life.

Whilst researching ‘the meaning of life’ and ‘finding your purpose’ I came across lots of information that I found a little overwhelming. I don’t think that it is healthy to think too hard about these things, but I do understand that for some people having a purpose is incredibly important in order to feel their life has value.

  1. Live by your beliefs & values - Listen to your inner voice, core beliefs and values when making decisions and taking actions.

  2. Set Priorities - Identify activities that matter most to you, spend the majority of your time and effort in these areas.

  3. Follow your passion - Ensure you are living a life that you wake up each morning eager to face the new day. Put your heart into everything you do and if your not enjoying what you are doing make a change. “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today” James Dean

  4. Achieve balance - Make sure whilst building a life for yourself with your career and family/friends, you find time to satisfy your personal needs.

  5. Feel content - Be satisfied with what you have and who you are.

  6. Make a difference - Do things for others without expectation of personal gain, serve as a role model to others. “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle” James Keller

  7. Live in the moment - Cherish every moment and seek to live a life without regret. “Don’t cry because it’ over, smile because it happened” Dr. Seuss

To conclude, this ended up being my favourite of the 3 MIND, BODY & SOUL! There are so many elements to every topic, each one playing such an important role in feeding your soul for success. By practicing each of these tips, you will inevitably feel better about your life and make the most out of each day! As I mentioned previously, when you feel good, you are motivated to keep up the good vibes. We all know that eating healthy, clean food and being physically active is the best way to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. However there are some things that are equally as important, all of which is mentioned above! By linking all of these together you can achieve a heathy mind, body & soul.

It is important to understand that these things take time & require effort in order to receive results but remember..
